It's vampire entertainment season with the anime, Vampire Knights

It seems that it's vampire entertainment season now because just last month, I've discovered this very cool new anime, Vampire Knights. It's currently at its 11th episode and is extremely good. This anime is cooler, darker and more action-packed than the romance vampire novel that is Twilight. However, other than the fact that they both touch on vampires, and their vampires don't die under sunlight, there is hardly any resemblance, so it is difficult to compare the two.

It's interesting to note how many facets of the vampire folklore race these artists and writers can depict. The old stories that included stakes, garlics, sunlight, and holy water have been replaced by more complex laws. For Vampire Knights, one new concept they introduced was their very own version of the caste system. We have the pure bloods at the top of the food chain (one of which is Kuran Kaname, a central character in the anime) and the Class E vampire pariah's - humans who were bitten by pure bloods. Apparently, in this anime, humans can only change to vampires if they are bitten by the highest-ranking vampires, and this in itself is considered taboo because Class E vampires succumb to their blood lust and lose their mind.

I don't consider myself a goth in any way, and I was never particularly interested in these "dark stuff" (I am quite the fradey cat actually), but if there's one vampire flick people should watch it's Vampire Knights. It's just the right amount of gripping, emotional, action-packed, humorous (you'll be surprised at how brilliantly they incorporate those SD anime moments into this seemingly serious anime)and of course, romantic ;). The drawing style of the anime is also very well-done, and fits the mood. Certainly an anime I recommend :)
